Op. Dr. İbrahim Karataş started his medical education at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed it in 1994. During his student years, he had the opportunity to closely examine medical practices in other countries by doing an internship at Düsseldorf University Faculty of Medicine in Germany. After graduation, he worked at Karaman Health Center No. 2 and took on administrative responsibilities at Ankara Abidinpaşa Health Group Presidency between 1995 and 1997.
Between 1997 and 2001, he completed his specialty training in General Surgery at SSK Ankara Dışkapı Education and Research Hospital and earned his title as an operative doctor. During this period, he gained experience in various surgical fields. In 2002, he received special training in interventional methods such as infrared photocoagulation and sclerotherapy for the treatment of hemorrhoids and varicose veins. At the same time, he worked on clinical nutrition (enteral and parenteral) and gained extensive knowledge in managing the nutrition of surgical patients. In 2003, he participated in programs at Ege University focused on advanced laparoscopic techniques and laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication.
Between 2001 and 2008, he worked at SSK Manisa Hospital, and later started working at Private Sekiz Eylül Hospital in Manisa. He then opened his own practice in Istanbul, where he began accepting patients in the fields of obesity and metabolic surgery. He performed procedures such as laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and type 2 diabetes surgery, and also collaborated with institutions like VM Medical Park Pendik Hospital.
Throughout his professional journey, he has kept up with current surgical methods through congresses and seminars. He has participated in events organized by organizations such as KEPAN (Clinical Enteral Parenteral Nutrition Association), ESPEN (European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism), the Turkish Surgical Society, and the International Bariatric Club. Through these activities, he has continued to expand his knowledge in bariatric and metabolic surgical methods on various platforms.
