Prof. Dr. Murat Songu was born in 1976 in Izmir. After completing his primary education, he continued his studies at Izmir Atatürk High School. In 1994, he began his undergraduate education at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, where he received his medical training. After graduation, he completed his specialization in Otolaryngology at Celal Bayar University and obtained his specialty diploma in this field.
After his medical education and specialization, he went to Bordeaux, France, in 2005 and 2006, where he had the opportunity to work at various institutions. During this period, he conducted practical studies at St. Augustin Clinic, Institut Georges Portmann, and Bordeaux University in the fields of rhinology, otologic surgery, skull base surgery, cochlear implantation, and cerebellopontine angle tumor surgery.
In 2008, he began working at Izmir Dr. Behçet Uz Children’s Diseases and Surgery Education and Research Hospital and Izmir Atatürk Education and Research Hospital. During this time, he continued his work in aesthetic and functional nasal surgery, revision rhinoplasty, and otoplasty. Through his more than 100 international and national publications, abstracts, and book chapters, his work has accumulated nearly 1700 international citations. The academic impact of his research has also been measured by his H-index and i10-index values.
In 2008, he received the Politzer Association Special Award, in 2009, the Presidential Certificate of Appreciation and the Health Workers Award. In 2010, he was honored with the Scientific Contribution Encouragement Award. On September 5, 2014, he received the title of Associate Professor in Otolaryngology, and on April 2, 2021, he was appointed as a Professor of Otolaryngology. He has played a role in training nearly 100 ENT residents and has taken on academic responsibilities such as assistant editor, editorial board membership, and peer review.
He continues to accept patients at his private clinic in Izmir and the healthcare institutions where he works. He is involved in rhinoplasty and related surgical procedures, while also continuing his academic work.
