
Associate Professor Dr. Umut Rıza Gündüz was born in 1978 in Ankara. After completing his primary and secondary education there, he moved to Istanbul to continue his medical education at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. He graduated in 2004, earning his medical doctor title. In 2005, he began his specialty training in general surgery at Istanbul Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital. After nearly five years of intensive assistantship, he completed his training at the end of 2010 and became a general surgery specialist.
Dr. Gündüz started working at Antalya Education and Research Hospital in 2011, where he performed surgeries in a wide range of surgical fields. He gained extensive experience in surgical applications, including cases involving different organs, cancer surgery, and obesity interventions. Through his scientific research and academic publications, he earned the title of Associate Professor in 2017. During this period, he contributed to the assistant training at the hospital and took on clinical responsibilities. Between 2016 and 2018, he participated in various domestic and international programs for advanced endoscopic and laparoscopic surgical training. For example, in 2017, he attended a course on revision bariatric surgery in Belgium, and in 2018, he completed the Da Vinci robotic surgery system training at the Orsi Academy.
In 2021, Dr. Gündüz took on both administrative and surgical responsibilities at the General Surgery Department of Özel Termessos Hospital in Antalya. His work in metabolic surgery, oncological surgery, and endocrine surgery continued here. In 2023, he established his own clinic (Soraca Med Clinic) and began providing services in Antalya. Dr. Gündüz is a member of organizations such as the Turkish Surgical Society, the National Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery Society, and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), and he continues his academic and clinical work within these frameworks.
